You're Invited: Radon Risk Reduction Day Featuring “The Elders”

Join us on September 8, 2025, to be part of the solution—because clean air and healthy homes shouldn’t be a privilege. They should be a right.

Hands-On Learning, Community Health, and Real Solutions for Radon Safety

Homewood, PA – On Monday September 8, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Citizens for Radioactive Radon Reduction (CR3) and Radon Detection & Control will host Radon Risk Reduction Day in Homewood (ZIP Code 15208)—an event designed to raise awareness, inspire action, and demonstrate practical solutions to reduce radon exposure in underserved communities.

This unique event invites residents, advocates, health professionals, and community leaders to witness a live radon mitigation system installation on a local single-family home. Attendees will even have a chance to put on gloves and gain hands-on experience alongside professionals in the field.

Radon is an odorless, tasteless, and invisible radioactive gas that seeps into homes from the soil. According to the U.S. Surgeon General, radon is the second-leading cause of lung cancer and the leading cause among non-smokers.

Despite the serious health risks, radon exposure often goes unaddressed—particularly in low-income and historically underserved communities, where the cost of testing and mitigation remains a significant barrier. The average cost to install a mitigation system ranges from $1,200 to $2,500—a price many families simply cannot afford.

To address this disparity, CR3 is actively addressing the need for a Radon Mitigation Assistance Fund to support homeowners who need help covering the costs of installation. The event aims to spark broader conversations around environmental justice, public health equity, and proactive lung cancer prevention.

“We know our communities care about clean air and reducing cancer risks,” says Jacquelyn E. Nixon, President of CR3 and lung cancer survivor. “Radon education and equitable access to mitigation are essential steps toward safer, healthier homes—especially in high-risk zip codes.”

About the Hosts

Citizens for Radioactive Radon Reduction (CR3) is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization advocating for education, testing, and mitigation of radon gas to reduce lung cancer risks. CR3 works to bridge the gap between science, policy, and community empowerment, advancing radon awareness as a critical environmental justice issue.

Radon Detection & Control, Pennsylvania’s oldest radon testing and mitigation company, has been serving western Pennsylvania and West Virginia since 1986. Family-owned and operated, the company is committed to providing affordable, effective solutions to reduce indoor radon levels and protect families from long-term health effects.

Join us on September 8, 2025 to be part of the solution—because clean air and healthy homes shouldn’t be a privilege. They should be a right.
